Before you apply

Applying for your Malaysia travel authorisation

Malaysia's travel authorisation is issued by Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia (Immigration Department of Malaysia). govr.me is a private, independent service — we are not a government department. We check your documents, complete the official form and submit your application for you. You can also apply yourself, directly and for the government fee only, at the official portal authority website.

What it costs

Government fee$40Set by the authority — the same wherever you apply
Our service fee$125Document check, form completion, submission & support
You pay$165From — final price shown before payment

Prices in USD. Our fee pays for our help only; it does not buy a faster government decision. Applying directly at the official portal costs the government fee alone.

Passport

  • Valid for at least 6 months from your application date.
  • At least 2 blank pages.

Photo

  • Size: 35 × 50 mm
  • Background: blue
  • Format: JPG, up to 1 MB
  • ~600 × 800 px
  • BLUE background (royal/cobalt) — NOT white. Single biggest avoidable rejection reason.

Documents you'll need

  • Coloured passport bio-page scan
  • BLUE-background passport-style photo
  • Confirmed return / onward flight ticket
  • Hotel booking or invitation letter
  • Bank statement (recommended; ~$500/week)
  • For Business: invitation + SSM business profile of Malaysian host

How the application works

  1. Verify eligibility / select product
  2. Personal & passport details
  3. Travel details
  4. Document upload (incl. blue photo)
  5. Pay

Payment: travel application; Mastercard; JCB; Some local Malaysian rails. PDF downloadable from portal once approved + emailed. 1–3 working days.

Do

  • Use the canonical portal at the authority website — NOT third-party lookalike sites.
  • Use a BLUE-background photo — non-negotiable.
  • Apply at least 5 working days before departure (1–3 days is the SLA but allow buffer).
  • Match data to your passport MRZ exactly.
  • Pay using the same card you'll travel with — easier dispute resolution.
  • Indian and Chinese nationals: first check whether you actually need an entry — tourism stays under 30 days need no permit.

Don't

  • Don't submit a white-background photo — it will be rejected; Malaysia requires blue.
  • Don't use third-party agent sites without checking their fee transparency.
  • Don't apply with less than 6 months passport validity.
  • Don't try to extend an eNTRI in-country — non-extendable; you must exit before the 15-day limit.
  • Don't overstay — Malaysia issues bans of 1–5 years for overstays.
  • Don't enter via a non-listed entry point — the entry pre-approves specific ports.

Why applications are refused

Decisions rest entirely with Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia (Immigration Department of Malaysia). The most common reasons an application is turned down:

  • Photo with white background instead of the required blue.
  • Passport scan unclear, glare on bio page, or corners cropped.
  • Passport with less than 6 months validity.
  • Insufficient proof of funds or accommodation, particularly for higher-risk passports.
  • Prior overstay, deportation, or application fraud history in Malaysia.

Important for Malaysia

  • Indian and Chinese nationals have needed no entry for stays up to 30 days since 1 December 2023 — check before paying for eNTRI or an entry.
