Before you apply

Applying for your Thailand travel authorisation

Thailand's travel authorisation is issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand. govr.me is a private, independent service — we are not a government department. We check your documents, complete the official form and submit your application for you. You can also apply yourself, directly and for the government fee only, at the official portal authority website.

May not need one

From 15 September 2026, passport holders from 60 countries and territories, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, India, the US and the UK, can visit Thailand for tourism for up to 30 days without an entry. Bilateral agreements allow up to 90 days for Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and South Korea, and up to 30 days for China, Hong Kong, Laos, Macao, Mongolia, Russia and Vietnam. A tourist permit allows up to 60 days per entry.

Passport

  • Valid for at least 6 months from your application date.
  • At least 1 blank page.
  • At least 6 months from the application date (12 months for multiple entry)

Photo

  • Format: JPG/JPEG, up to 3 MB
  • Taken within the last 6 months

Documents you'll need

  • Coloured passport bio-page scan
  • Photo taken within the last 6 months
  • Confirmed return / onward flight ticket
  • Hotel booking or invitation from Thai host
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months (amounts vary by embassy)
  • Document showing your current location, for example a residence permit

How the application works

  1. Choose permit category + nationality
  2. Personal & passport details
  3. Trip details (entry, accommodation)
  4. Upload supporting documents
  5. Pay

Payment: Card at most embassies; Cash at some embassies (for example Islamabad). PDF emailed once approved. The embassy handling your application sets the processing time.

Do

  • Use the canonical portal at the authority website — Thailand has many lookalike sites.
  • Apply early: embassy processing can take several weeks, and applications open 3 months before arrival.
  • Prepare digital scans before starting — sessions can time out.
  • Match all data to your passport MRZ exactly.
  • Use a stable, valid email — your entry is delivered there.
  • Keep a printed copy of the entry.

Don't

  • Don't use third-party lookalike sites without verifying.
  • Don't apply with less than 6 months passport validity.
  • Don't book non-refundable flights before issuance.
  • Don't try to use the DTV as a backdoor work permit — DTV holders may NOT take Thai employment.
  • Don't overstay — Thailand fines THB 500/day with bans on overstays beyond 90 days.
  • Don't list a hotel you haven't actually booked — Thai immigration may verify.

Why applications are refused

Decisions rest entirely with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand. The most common reasons an application is turned down:

  • Insufficient proof of funds, or bank statement older than 3 months.
  • Photo with the face partially obscured.
  • Application data mismatch with passport (DOB, name spelling, passport number).
  • Suspicious itinerary (one-way ticket, no accommodation).
  • Prior immigration violation in Thailand (overstay, deportation history).
