Before you apply

Applying for your Egypt travel authorisation

Egypt's travel authorisation is issued by Arab Republic of Egypt, Ministry of Interior. govr.me is a private, independent service — we are not a government department. We check your documents, complete the official form and submit your application for you. You can also apply yourself, directly and for the government fee only, at the official portal authority website.

What it costs

Government fee$30Set by the authority — the same wherever you apply
Our service fee$120Document check, form completion, submission & support
You pay$150From — final price shown before payment

Prices in USD. Our fee pays for our help only; it does not buy a faster government decision. Applying directly at the official portal costs the government fee alone.

Passport

  • Valid for at least 8 months from your application date.
  • At least 1 blank page.
  • Egypt's 8-month rule is unusually strict — most countries require 6 months.

Photo

  • Size: 600 × 600 px (square)
  • Background: white
  • Format: JPEG / PNG, up to 2 MB
  • ~40 × 40 mm print equivalent
  • No glasses, no headwear except religious
  • Both ears visible
  • Neutral expression

Documents you'll need

  • Coloured passport bio-page scan
  • Recent square passport-style photo (white background)
  • Hotel reservation OR travel itinerary (sometimes requested)
  • Return / onward ticket (carry on entry)
  • Valid email + payment card or Mastercard

How the application works

  1. Register / sign up (account required)
  2. Application form
  3. Upload documents
  4. Pay

Payment: travel application; Mastercard. PDF emailed + downloadable from "My Applications" dashboard. 5–7 business days.

Do

  • Ensure your passport has at least 8 months validity from arrival.
  • Upload a colour scan of the passport bio page — black-and-white scans are auto-rejected.
  • Use an unedited, recent photograph against a plain white wall — no filtered photos.
  • Apply at least 7–10 days before departure to absorb the 5–7 day processing window.
  • Print the entry PDF AND save it to your phone — EgyptAir checks at boarding.
  • Carry proof of accommodation and a return ticket on entry.

Don't

  • Don't apply via lookalike sites — always use the authority website (note the digit 2 = 'to').
  • Don't submit a selfie as your photo — the portal requires plain-background, photo-booth style.
  • Don't attempt the online permit with an Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi passport without a residence/work permit.
  • Don't use the Sinai-only entry stamp if you intend to visit Cairo or Luxor — you'll be turned back.
  • Don't pay in EGP/Egyptian pounds online — the portal is USD-only.
  • Don't arrive on a one-way ticket without proof of onward travel.

Why applications are refused

Decisions rest entirely with Arab Republic of Egypt, Ministry of Interior. The most common reasons an application is turned down:

  • Photo does not meet specs — wrong background, low resolution, or photo of a printed photo.
  • Passport bio scan unreadable — glare, cut-off corners, poor lighting.
  • Passport validity less than 8 months from arrival date.
  • Mismatch between name on the application and the passport MRZ.
  • Applicant nationality is on the embassy-only list and submitted online by mistake.

Important for Egypt

  • Indian, Chinese, and Russian nationals can use the free Sinai-only stamp (15 days, Sharm/Hurghada/Dahab/Taba) but cannot leave the resort zone.
  • Most South Asian and most African nationalities must apply at an embassy — not online.
